Ganesh Visarjan is done on the day of Anant Chaturdasi, where the immersion of the Ganesh Idol is done all across the country. It is on the eleventh day from the first day of the putting up of the Ganesh idol. The beautiful statues or idols of Ganesha are immersed in the large body of water and then left to disintegrate, and this is called visarjan. In different cities, there are thousands of Ganesh idols immersed.

There is nothing such as a rule for the day on which the ganesh idol immersion can be done, but Anant Chaturdasi is the 11th day and usually most of the people do the Ganesh Visarjan particularly on that day. For the Ganesh Chaturthi 2014, there are a few dates which are particular for the visarjan procedure and you can select one of them for the immersion of the Ganesh statue that you have placed for the festival.

The schedule for this year Ganesh Visarjan 2014 is as follows:

  • Ganesh Visarjan on one and half day: that is on August 30th, 2014
  • Ganesh Visarjan on third day: that is on August 31st, 2014
  • Ganesh Visarjan on fifty day: that is on September 2nd, 2014. On this day, in Maharashtra, Gauri idols are also worshiped along with Ganesh idols, and both the idols are immersed on this day.
  • Ganesh Visarjan on seventh day: that is on September 4th, 2014.
  • Anant Chaturdasi is the last day of Ganesh Visarjan, and this is on September 8th, 2014.
  • For those in Mumbai, the immersion of the ganesh idol of Andhericha Raja would take place on Sankashti Chaturthi, which is on September 12th. The actual procession would start on September 11th, but it takes around 20 hours for the procession to be completed.

  • The two slogans which are chanted during the procession by everyone joining it are "Ganapati Bappa Morya" and "Ganesh Maharaj Ki, Jai". The concept of using murti (idol) for the Ganesh pooja is since a long time, and at the beginning of a pooja, the presiding deity is invoked in the idol for the purpose of worshiping the god. When the pooja ends, the diety is then requested to depart from the murti. The word "Visarjan" holds an importance for the reason that it is the rite in Hindu culture where the disciples worship and request the diety of God to depart. The murti is taken as a temporary body of the lord and then it is submerged into water to return it to nature. Visarjan is also done for the purpose of replenishing the spiritual energy in the body, and to also remind people that the material wealth is not permanent, and it holds no use to the soul of a person. It also gives a message that life is short and is confined to our own body, and one has to understand detachment. What ever we cherish during the life, is reduced to ashes and base elements at one point.

During Indian festivals, it is all about sweets apart from the prayers to the God. The other sweets that are special and available, include Motichoor Modaks, Mawa Modaks, Besan Ke Laddu, Kaju Barfi, Puran Poli Modak, Rawa Laddoo and Dal ka Halwa. There are a lot of other sweets too made but these are the ones which one would always love to have, especially the ladoos given that this is the birthday of Lord Ganesha.

Ganesh Diyas / Lamps

There are a lot of beautiful diyas, agarbathi stands and special lamps available with the carving of Lord Ganesh on them. These are made from Silver, White Metal, Brass and even Gold. The designs such as Ganesh sitting on large leaf, with a diya on front of him, and there are colorful attractive diyas too available both online and offline for someone who wanted to give something in the right trend and wanted to gift something which lasts for a long time, and people remember it.

Ganesh Idols

These are the most attractive, rememberable and theme based Ganesh Chaturthi gifts one can give. If you haven't gifted one of these, go visit a store and check for the Marble ganesh idols which come with beautiful designs, finish and decorated with stones to make them look the best, and it is a Hindu belief to have a Ganesh idol in the house for the growth in wealth. There are so many options that you might be confused which one to go with, but the material is what you should look for before choosing the best idol to gift.

Ganesh Gold / Silver Coins

If you are thinking about the use of what you are gifting, then choosing a gold or silver coin based on your budget is a very good choice because these can be kept for a long time, and when needed, the person who is gifted with this, can exchange this with something useful. There are coins available from a weight of as low as 2 grams, so you can choose one and gift with the Ganesh scripted on the coin.

Dry Fruits

These are for the ones who look into everything, even the shelf life. Sweets which we shared above, cannot be eaten a couple of days after they are made, but Dry fruits can be kept for a considerable amount of time, and these look very good as a gift in any occasion, whether that may be a religious one or an anniversary of something. Dry Fruits are used in the Poojas in houses, so gifting them as a Ganesh Chaturthi gift could serve more than one purpose.

Ganesh Chaturthi is one of those Hindu festivals that is celebrated among the masses and for these 9 days there is much police security on roads as well as for the places where the Ganapati Statues are been immersed in water, and the reason for this much police security is that everyone knows about the carelessness of Indian population to carry out any activity may be celebrating any occasion, be it a marriage celebration or any religious activity amongst groups. But it’s really bad to say that even this police security isn’t enough for people to conduct mistakes that relate to major accidents and deaths of innocents. Lets get to know more about why and how to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi 2014.

“ वक्रतुंड महाकाय कोटिसूर्यसमप्रभ। निर्विघ्नं कुरु मे देव सर्वकार्येषु सर्वदा॥ “

Which means: The curved elephant trunk, the huge body, thy brilliance is equivalent to the Sun | You are the God who removes all the obstacles, always helps in accomplishing our tasks || sVinayak Chaturthi or Vinayak Chaterthi commonly known as Ganesh Chaturthi Is coming on fourth day after new moon according to the Hindu calendar month of Bhadrapada i.e. 29th of August, 2014, Friday. Lord Ganesh is worshiped as the one who solves all the problems and relieves us from distress. It is believed that there ain’t question that he can’t answer. People also believe in sharing thoughts and doubts with Lord Ganesh and seek a solution.

It always has been a festival of great joy for people who celebrate it, with the news of POLLUTING THE HOLY WATER during immersion of Lord Ganesh on the last day of Ganesh Chtaturthi ( Ananant Chaturthi ) on 9th September, from few years people started to buy eco-friendly Statues which was the first step towards social responsibilities. But does that really means we are socially careful or just trying to seek attention from people. While major groups of youngsters today just do it for the purpose of being famous and earn the prices for some competition. They totally forget about the real values Ganapati wants that people should inculcate and so they avoid involving their parents and grandparents in that celebration.

A tale tells of how one day the Gods decided to choose their leader and a race was to be held between the brothers- Kartikeya and Ganesh. Whoever took three rounds of the earth first would be made the the leader. Kartikeya seated on a peacock as his vehicle, started off for the test. Ganesh was given a rat, which moved swiftly. Ganesh realised that the test was not easy, but he would not disobey his father. He then touched his parents feet, took their blessings and went around them three times and thus completed the test before Kartikeya. He said, " my parents made me and so they are the whole universe to me and going around them, is more than going round the earth." Everybody was pleasantly surprised to hear Ganesha's logic and intelligence and hence he came to be known as the or leader, now referred to as Ganpati. Ganapati when was told to complete three rounds of the globe he did not do the same as he didn’t just cared about the competition between him and his brother but he also respected the value for his parents and took three rounds roaming around his parents Shiva and Parvati (Pārbati).

So this year we should try to inculcate those values from Ganapati to us and lets celebrate this Ganesh Chaturthi with our whole family members, so, that we can keep the stability of reference of India as a religious country.

This should be done everywhere in India where Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated as well as outside India in every country where Indians celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi. This Ganesh Chaturthi in 2014 will also witness the same joy, happiness and complete dedication of devotees celebrating the birth of Lord Ganesha outside India.
